Harvey Barnes, born on December 9, 1997, in Burnley, England, is an English footballer who plays as a winger. He joined Leicester City’s youth academy at the age of 9 and signed his first professional contract in June 2016. He performed exceptionally well in the U23 League during the 2016–17 season, after which he was repeatedly loaned out. In January 2017, he was loaned to Wimbledon, where he was named the club’s Young Player of the Season. In July of the same year, he signed a four-year contract extension with Leicester City. In August 2017, he was loaned to Barnsley in the Championship; he was recalled in January 2018. He was then loaned to West Bromwich Albion in the Championship in July 2018 and brought back in January 2019. Upon his return, he gradually became a key player; in June 2019, he signed a five-year contract extension and was named the club’s Young Player of the Season for the 2019–20 campaign. In August 2021, he extended his contract until 2025, helping the team win the Community Shield in 2021. During the 2022–23 season, the team was relegated to the Championship. In July 2023, he joined Newcastle United on a five-year contract, with a transfer fee of around £38 million. He was sidelined due to injury from September until February 2024. In March 2025, he helped Newcastle United win the EFL Cup, making them the first Newcastle team in 70 years to claim a domestic trophy. Barnes has represented England at youth level; in 2017, he helped the U20 team win the Toulon Tournament, finishing as one of the tournament’s top scorers with 4 goals. He was called up to the U21 squad in 2018 and participated in the European Under-21 Championship in 2019. In October 2020, he made his debut for the senior national team as a substitute in a friendly match against Wales; however, he has not received any further call-ups since then.
